About Team 2180
FIRST Team 2180 is a group of brilliant young minds that share an interest in creating the technology of the future. As a team, we test our mental and physical limits by competing in numerous competitions and continuously trying to better ourselves. With the help and support of our coach and mentors, we come together to show our talents in robotics.
Zero Gravity began in 2006, and since then, accomplished many achievements. For instance, even as a rookie team, we were able to place fourth in the FIRST Vex competition and walked away with the respected Inspire Award during the 2006-2007 build season. In addition, during the 2007-2008 season, we won the Rising Star Award, and in 2009, we received the Trenton Regional Woodie Flowers Award. The Steinert Robotics team continues to challenge ourselves and reach our goals.
We do this by heavily focusing on our future. We aim on increasing funding and recognition for the team through our school and community. We would like to make FIRST Robotics a household name in Hamilton. We plan to increase our member base and turn our new members into the leaders of tomorrow by educating and training them. The ultimate goal of the Steinert Robotics team is to empower our fellow classmates in all of their endeavors especially those in the pursuit of science and technology.
However, our team is not just about building a robot. We also concentrate on spreading the FIRST message. Their message it to inform the community that science and technology, and the people interested in these fields, are the future and deserve as much support as possible. We help get the word out in many ways. For example, this past year our team has reached out to the community by partnering with the Mercer County Improvement Authority (MCIA) to build a robot used to promote recycling and, by extension, robotics. Our team has gone through the elementary and middle school levels by hosting an annual First Lego League tournament. This has sent a shockwave through the community because the teachers, administrators, and board members were so impressed by the competing teams, that robotics has been heavily implemented into the lower level schools. This in turn has dramatically increased the interest in robotics in the students in these schools. Finally, we have rushed out to local politicians and made them aware of FIRST and its message at community events such as our local Septemberfest.
This team aims to give the members of our school, that are interested in science and technology, a place to meet and freely discuss ideas without criticism, and abolish the previously set stereotype of these students.
